Spearmint Essential Oil

English, grown and distilled in Hampshire.

When feeling mentally tired and down, spearmint is one of the best oils to use.
It was originally a native of the Mediterranean region and brought over by the Romans.
Earlier uses of it were by the ancient Greeks, who scented every part of the body, and used Spearmint on their arms. They also used it to scent their bath water and it had a reputation for curing sexually transmitted diseases like gonorrhoea. During the medieval times it was used to heal sore gums and also to whiten teeth.
Spearmint is excellent to use for children’s illnesses as an alternative to peppermint. This is because although it has very similar properties (it is a stimulant), it is much less powerful so is therefore much more safe.
It makes a very good digestive tonic, helping with problems such as flatulence, constipation, diarrhoea and sickness, as it relaxes the stomach muscles. It is also successful in treating hiccups.
